Farming
Indigo Fruit Farming’s footprint spans three provinces producing top quality citrus, mangoes, avocadoes and macadamia nuts, with more than 4 million trees planted on more than 50 farms. As a leader in the production of premium citrus, late mandarins and seedless lemons represents 70% of our footprint in South Africa. With our range of climatically diverse production regions, our South African premium mandarin supply season spans 24 weeks of the year, starting with Leanri’s in Letsitele in April and concluding with late Nadorcotts in the Western Cape in October.
In order to lengthen the season and to mitigate supply risks due to area-specific natural disasters, Indigo expanded into the Western Cape in 2011 with the acquisition of Kruisrivier and Olivedale farms outside Heidelberg. Currently 40% of plantings is found in Limpopo Province, 40% in Mpumalanga Province and 20% in the Western Cape Province. Indigo currently employs more than 1200 salaried and wage staff.
